The article in our link for today provides a good insight in why some of the math rules can be confusing for children with either dyslexia or dyscalculia.

Occurrence of both dyslexia and dyscalculia with the same child is rather common. Not always are the problems recognized as dyscalculia but rather seen as an extension of the existing dyslexia. Certainly difficulties with word problems can be explained this way although there may be more at hand and a specialist dyscalculia tutoring should really be used to correct the problems with math.

There are numerous warning signs for dyscalculia, and as the child gets older the warning signs will change slightly.  We have focused on warning signs in early elementary.  If anyone needs warning signs for a different age they are welcome to contact us, and we will be happy to help. Parents will possibly see a variety of signs and they should know it is very common for dyscalculia to co-occur with other learning differences.
