Children with developmental dyscalculia find it difficult to understand and manipulate numbers, and to acquire mathematical knowledge. Developmental dyscalculia affects around 3 – 7% of the school-age population. There is some evidence that dyscalculia may be heritable and it is often described as the mathematical equivalent of dyslexia.

An article about the issues when you call a kid smart when they have done something good. The danger is that when they mess something up they’ll think of themselves as not being smart after all.
Another issue that my teenager keeps pointing out to me is that he works very hard for his results and calling him smart is like dismissing it and attributing the results to his genes.
