Dyscalculia, do you need estimation?

Dyscalculia;News from the web:

An interesting question from a physician with a dyscalculic daughter. His main point seems to be; should we not stop teaching things that are not relevant in later life. As an example; estimation. The argument is, if there really ever will be a situation where an engineer without laptop or phone will be put on the spot to do a load bearing calculation.

Nice discussion, let us know where you are on this topic.

Dyscalculia how do you explain it your kids?

Dyscalculia; News from the web:

Once you see your child struggling with math and see all the other symptoms, you know what to do.

Get an assessment, ask for accommodations, get specialized tutoring.

That is all the easy part, but how do you tell it to your child that they are different? How do you ensure they understand they are not stupid but have a learning difference? Kids can be so cruel at school so how do you get your child ready for this?

Well today we have unfortunately more questions than answers. Please comment on how YOU would go about it. Thanks for participating!
