One in five American Adults is functionally innumerate, which means, they cannot solve 8th grade math problems. Research now shows that the ability to count, emphasis in the early grades, does little to predict math issues later in life. In fact it maybe better to discuss some more complicated math problems over the dinner table to give the kids a boost.

Different process makes a huge difference for Dyscalculia students

High school students who struggle on college-readiness tests solve the simplest arithmetic problems as quickly as higher-achieving students, but they use very different brain processes to do so, according to new research.  High-achieving students knew one digit arithmatic calculiations by rote memory, while lower-performing students were still mentally calculating even low-level problems.
