What does “New Math” mean for children with dyscalculia?

The old way has always failed our students with special needs. The challenge now will be for regular education teachers (and state curriculum) to move at a pace that makes sense for the entire class with the new strategies. Thankfully, however, number sense is now built into the day for all students, including our students with learning disabilities.

Embracing the new math might be an important step for a parent of a child with a learning difficulty. For many the traditional methods have never worked.

This is a fundamental build in skill that humans have, animal also btw as they need to know immediately if the other group is larger so if they need to fight or flight. New Dyscalculia research

It is not every day that we find new dyscalculia research but now there is a new project starting.

This one-year study aims to answer two questions: 1) Do children with developmental dyscalculia have an order processing deficit? 2) What is the extent of this deficit? Is it specific to order working memory or number ordering skills, or is there evidence for a more general order processing deficit in developmental dyscalculia?
