Dyscalculia Webinars

To ensure people can learn about dyscalculia in an easy format we have recorded five free webinars that are rebroadcasted every working day at three different times to cover different time zones worldwide.

You can sign up for the webinars at https://webinars.dyscalculiatrainingcenter.com

The webinars are:

·        Dyscalculia an introduction

·        Early warning signs, screening and testing

·        Golden rules for dyscalculia interventions

·        Effective use of manipulatives

·        Dyscalculia in the classroom

Diagnostic Assessments

We hear this often: “why do we need a diagnostic assessment; I can tell you what my child can and cannot do with math”.

The analogy is with your general physician, when you visit them with pain in your stomach area, you cannot just say: “please treat me I can point you where the pain is”. The doc needs to get some testing done to see if the cause would be the bad taco you ate yesterday evening or if it could be an ulcer.

Likewise with dyscalculia we need to have a diagnostic assessment to see where exactly the trouble with math comes from and how we can best help you or your child.

Adult Dyscalculia

An often-forgotten category of people with dyscalculia are the adults, so we dedicated a separate webpage to them https://adultdyscalculia.org

We hear more and more signs from adults who are looking to get closure on their questions about why math has been so difficult for them. Mostly they have dyscalculia but it has never been recognized, assessed or remediated.

As adults have other needs, we have created a video series called “Math In Real Life” a video series for people of 18 to 80 with no difficult formulas or factoring polynomials but rather short videos with explanations on how to use math in everyday situations.

From giving tip and change in a restaurant to adjusting a recipe in the kitchen, choosing a mortgage or cell phone contract or even working in the garden. Math is everywhere around us and these adults are very aware of it so we have no less than 37 videos to help them review the basic operations in various ways and apply some easy math to feel more confident in real life.

Math and Dyscalculia Screening Test (MDST)

The complete online Math and Dyscalculia Screener Test has 15 parts, but no one will complete all 15 parts. Depending on your age and grade you will complete a maximum of 14 or a minimum of 8 parts of the online Math and Dyscalculia Screener Test. As the system is dynamic, there is no indication of how many parts you have completed and how many you still need to do.

The Math and Dyscalculia Screening Test (MDST) is an interactive computerized assessment that combines Number Sense and Math Achievement. The complexity of questions keeps increasing, when students do well and easier questions are provided, when a student has several mistakes in a row. The average response time on a general reaction test (slow processing or fast processing) is compared with answering times on the various components. It gives an initial result based on the grade placement entered at the start of the screening.

The modules include:

·        A baseline reaction time Approximate number sense

·        Dice test Picture comparison

·        Skip count Missing numbers

·       Number line Block test

·        Visualizing area Visualizing fractions

·        Calculations with: Counting, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fractions,  Percent, Decimals, and Exponents
